Dhanushkodi
“A ghost town at India’s southeastern tip, wiped out by a cyclone in 1964 and never rebuilt.”
A place with a memory.
Located on the slender eastern tip of Pamban Island just 18 miles from Sri Lanka, Dhanushkodi was once a bustling commercial port where passenger ferries met the famous Boat Mail express train. On the catastrophic night of 22 December 1964, a category-5 super cyclone brought 20-foot storm surges that completely erased the town.
